  1. He worked as a garbage man in Cincinnati, United States, but returned to his country Canada to complete his studies in 1961.
  2. He had always wanted to be a news anchor and was even a member of his college English Debating Society.
  3. While he was still a college student, Alex wanted to make a career in broadcast news and event before the completion of his degree, he began working with CBC in 1961.
  4. The last year of his college life was very hectic as he attended school in the mornings and worked at night. According to him, he worked so much that at one time, he had replaced “every announcer in every possible job”.
  5. After working mindlessly, he eventually got to read the national news. He was also on CBC’s radio and television divisions and covered a variety of special events.
  6. In 1963, he got his first hosting job which was on Music Hop, a Canadian music program.
  7. Alex began hosting the revival of Jeopardy! in 1984. On May 2, 2017, his contract with the show was renewed till 2020 which was further extended until 2022.
  8. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1998.
  9. Alex grew up in a bilingual French-English environment. Hence, he was a fluent English and French speaker. He could also speak some German, Italian, Spanish, and Russian.
  10. In 2014, he was honored by the Guinness World Record as the person who has hosted the most game show episodes for the same program.
