Diablo Cody is an American writer, director, and producer who arrived on the Hollywood scene with her Oscar-winning script for the feature film Juno in 2007. Since then, her writing repertoire has included films like Young Adult (2011), Ricki and the Flash (2015), and Tully (2018), all of which revolve around the central female characters coming to terms with their personal struggles. Prior to being a writer, Cody spent some time working as a stripper in Minnesota and chronicled her experiences in her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper in 2005. Since 2009, she has been married to Dan Maurio.

1. Jon Hunt (2004-2007) – Diablo was married to musician Jon Hunt, guitarist with the psych-folk band Lovely Dark, from 2004 to 2007. According to her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper (2005), she relocated to Minneapolis to move in with her boyfriend Jon, whom she fondly referred to as Jonny. The prominent tattoo on her right arm of a pin-up girl had “Jonny’s Girl” written across it. However, after their divorce was finalized in 2007, she replaced the text with roses. But, it seems like the ex-couple has managed to remain friends even after remarrying other people.
2. Dan Maurio (2009-Present) – The screenwriter surprised everyone in April 2010 when she announced that she was pregnant with her first child. She went on to add that she had married actor-producer Dan Maurio in the summer of 2009. Dan, who works for the talk show Lately, allegedly proposed to Diablo while they were riding a roller coaster, which is one of her favorite hobbies. The couple has 3 children – son Marcello Daniel Maurio (b. July 27, 2010), and two more boys born in 2012 and 2015.

1. Brook adopted the pen name Diablo Cody after listening to the Arcadia song El Diablo while driving through Cody in Wyoming. Diablo is a Spanish term for Devil.
2. After marrying her first husband Jon Hunt in 2004, the couple decided to hyphenate their last names. Diablo, who was using her real name at that time, was known as Brook Busey-Hunt and her husband became Jon Busey-Hunt.
3. Before making it big in Hollywood, she worked as a secretary and copy proofreader.
4. One of her earliest writing works included a parody blog titled Red Secretary, which was about a secretary from Belarus. Written from the perspective of an English-idiom-challenged Eastern Bloc girl, the exploits mentioned in the blog were loosely based on her personal experiences.
5. After moving to Minneapolis in Minnesota, she wrote her first blog by using the nickname Darling Girl.
6. In March 2003, she started an adult blog named The Pu**y Ranch, under the pen name Diablo Cody.

Cody and other female screenwriters like Dana Fox, Lorene Scafaria, and Liz Meriwether (collectively known as Fempire) were awarded the Creativity and Sisterhood Award at the Athena Film Festival in 2012. The award was in honor of their continued support of each other’s works in spite of the cut-throat competition in the industry.
