5. For his character as Gimli in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, he had to sit 5 hours a day to do his makeup. As he was allergic to prosthetic, the makeup initially burned off the skin under his eyes, thereby restricting his makeup wear to every 3rd day.
6. It was his son who made him accept the role in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).
