  1. Denis’s parents moved to Tel Aviv from the erstwhile Soviet Union as the latter was on the verge of collapse. When he was a year old, his parents relocated to Canada.
  2. He began playing tennis from the age of 5 and his mother quit her tennis coaching job to open a new academy in Vaughan, Ontario to train him and other junior players.
  3. In 2017, he was selected to participate in the 1st round Davis Cup World Group tie against Great Britain. In the deciding match of the rubber, he accidentally hit the chair umpire as he lobbed a ball angrily towards the spectators after dropping a service game. He was immediately disqualified for ‘unsportsmanlike behavior’ and consequently, Canada lost the tie 2-3.
  4. At the 2017 Rogers Cup, he became the youngest player to ever reach the semifinal of an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament. The same year, he also became the youngest player, since Michael Chang in 1989, to reach the 4th round of the US Open.
  5. He won his first ATP title at the Stockholm Open in October 2019. A month later, he led Canada to the Davis Cup final after he won both his singles and doubles match against Russia in the semi-final to hand Canada a 2-1 win. This was Canada’s 1st Davis Cup final appearance in the tournament’s 119-year history.
