Gabby Williams is an American-French professional basketball player who has represented Chicago Sky in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) after being drafted 4th overall in the first round of the 2018 WNBA Draft. During the WNBA off-season, she represented the Catalonia-based club Spar Citylift Uni Girona in 2019 and the same year, won the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto, the highest tier of women’s league basketball in Spain. She has also played for Dike Napoli (2018-19) in Italy and Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration (2019-20) in France. In March and April 2020, while representing the latter team, she was stuck in France due to the lockdown implemented to contain the breakout of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Gabby Williams Facts

1. As a high school sophomore, representing Edward C. Reed High School, she led her team to the Class 4A state title in Nevada. She had averaged an impressive 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 steals per game during the season. Her match-winning performances in both the semifinal and final of championship led her to be named the Las Vegas Review-Journal ‘Class 4A State Player of the Year’.
2. During her junior year in high school, she had suffered a completely torn anterior cruciate ligament and partially torn meniscus in her right knee.
3. In high school, she also used to participate in the high jump event through which she had qualified as an alternate for the 2012 London Olympics.
4. While representing the University of Connecticut, she led the university’s team, The Huskies, to an astonishing 148-3 record and won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championship in successive years, in 2015 and 2016.
5. In 2017, she was named the AAC (American Athletic Conference) ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ and the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) ‘Defensive Player of the Year’. The same year, she was named in the NCAA ‘All-Tournament Team’ as well as the United States Basketball Writers Association ‘All-America Team’.
6. She ended her university career as one of only 5 Huskies’ players to score a triple-double (a performance where a player achieves a double-digit number in 3 of the 5 performance categories—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots) and one of only 7 Huskies’ players to cross 1,000 points as well as 1,000 rebounds. In her senior year (2018), she was honored with the ‘Lowe’s Senior Class Award’.
