Tom Blomqvist Facts
- Born in Cambridge, England, Tom spent most of his childhood in New Zealand where he began his racing career with karts. Between 2003 and 2008, in his early teenage years, he had won 8 karting championship titles in New Zealand.
- In 2009, at the age of 15, he had moved to Europe to participate in single-seater feeder championships but had to apply for special permission to race due to his age. Due to his father’s heritage, he had raced under a Swedish racing license until March 2010.
- In 2010, when he won the Formula Renault UK championship, he was just 16 years old and the youngest driver ever to win the championship. He had broken the record set by who had achieved the feat at the age of 18.
- The same year, he was named in the final shortlist for the McLaren Autosport BRDC (British Racing Drivers’ Club) Award and won the ‘Autosport British Club Driver Of The Year Award’. He was also honored with the Henry Surtees Award, annually given to recognize the most outstanding performance by a rising star.
- In 2011, while competing at the German Formula 3 Championship, he was hit by another car which propelled him into a wall and broke his back. The serious injury required many months to properly heal.
- In 2015, his debut season at the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, he became the youngest driver to win a race with the BMW team and the second-youngest race winner with any manufacturer.
