Sophia Flörsch is a German professional racing driver who, in 2020, became the first female driver to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship since its formation after the GP3 Series and European F3 categories were merged into one entity. Before this, she had competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship (2015), the ADAC Formula 4 Championship (2016-2017), the Italian F4 Championship (2017), the FIA Formula 3 European Championship (2018), and the Formula Regional European Championship (2019). In February 2020, she was honored with the ‘World Comeback of the Year’ award at the Laureus World Sports Awards for her courageous return to the sport by competing in the 2019 Macau Grand Prix after she had met with a horrific accident at the 2018 Macau Grand Prix. In that race, her car had left the tarmac at more than 170 mph and had crashed through the safety barrier. The accident had caused her a spinal injury that had required a 17-hour surgery and months of recovery.
