1. He had a troubled childhood as his father had abandoned the family when he was just a toddler and his mother had disowned him when he was about 13 years old. He had then stayed at several of his friends’ homes for years, staying a few weeks in one place before moving to another. Despite these troubles, he had stated in an interview that he had reunited with both his parents later on in his life and they had maintained a very cordial relationship.

In his wilderness years, just before his senior year at Tomball High School, he was challenged by Jordan Leslie, a freshman football and basketball player at the school, to a 3-point shooting contest. They became great friends thereafter and Jimmy began staying at Jordan’s home. A few months later, he was even adopted by Jordan’s mother, Michelle Lambert, as her son.
3. In his senior year at Tomball High School, he was named the team’s captain and for his performances (average of 19.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game), he had been named the team’s ‘Most Valuable Player’.
