She is best known for portraying characters such as Tuptim in the revival of the musical titled The King and I (2015-2016), MwE in the musical KPOP (2017), and Gretchen Wieners in the Tony-nominated musical Mean Girls (2017-2019). For her work in KPOP, she had won the ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical’ award at the 2018 Lucille Lortel Awards. She has also played Olivia Cho in the comedy TV series Nightcap (2017), Jennifer ‘Ani’ Winter in the drama web mini TV series Tales of the City (2019), and Mindy Chen in the comedy-drama web TV series Emily in Paris (2020).

1. She was drawn towards performing arts from a very young age and her parents had enrolled her in a dance academy when she was just 3 years old. She had also started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. At her high school, she used to participate in both theatre and choir and had also co-founded an a cappella group for girls known as Soulfege.
2. When she was 15 years old, she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and had to spend nearly 8 months recuperating in a hospital. During this phase, the Make-A-Wish Foundation had helped her and her family visit New York City to attend several Broadway productions including The Lion King, Spring Awakening, and Wicked. Ashley has often credited these experiences as the defining factor in her career choice of becoming a theater actor.
3. Just 3 months after completing her chemotherapy course and returning to high school, she had been selected to play the lead role of Millie Dillmount in her high school’s production of the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.
4. While studying at the University of Michigan, she had co-founded a student-run organization known as Michigan Performance Outreach Workshop (MPOW) that had aimed at providing performing arts-related educational opportunities to students in southeastern Michigan.
5. In 2013, she had been honored with the Willis Patterson Diversity Award.
6. During her time at university, she had also been heavily involved with the Prison Creative Arts Project, an organization that engages prison inmates into an artistic collaboration with university students.
