- She originally went with the stage name “Betty Boop” due to her close resemblance to the animated cartoon character of the same name that was created by Max Fleischer. However, she later changed her stage name to “Betty Boo” in order to avoid trademark-related legal issues.
- In an article that was published in August 1990, to The Guardian by author and journalist Lucy O’Brien, she had described Betty as a combination of the cartoon characters Betty Boop, Barbarella, and Buck Rogers.
- Betty started off her career as a singer while in school with a hip-hop group called She Rockers. After that, she went on to join the group Public Enemy. It was there, that Betty was encouraged to pursue a solo career as she did not quite fit in with the group.
- As a solo artist, Betty released her debut single titled Doin’ The Do in 1990. It was a huge success for her as it earned a place at #7 on the UK Singles Chart, followed by #1 on the US Dance Club Songs chart.
- Betty’s solo career diminished in the early 1990s after her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. However, she took to songwriting on the suggestion of talent manager Chris Herbert.
