Rick Moranis is a Canadian actor, comedian, musician, songwriter, screenwriter, as well as producer who shot to fame after appearing in the television sketch comedy series Second City Television (SCTV) in the 1980s where he performed in various roles along with being the writer, his work fetching him the Primetime Emmy Award in 1982 for “Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program”. He gained further popularity by starring in several films including Strange Brew (1983) in which he played the character of Bob McKenzie and for which he was the co-writer and co-director. He has also been the co-creator and executive producer of a number of TV shows like Bob & Doug (2009) and is an accomplished musician having released numerous albums such as My Mother’s Brisket & Other Love Songs (2013).

- In 1997, he took a hiatus from acting due to the untimely demise of his wife in order to devote his time to his 2 children and he did not appear in a live-action movie for decades thereafter, apart from providing voice-over work for some animated movies such as Disney’s Brother Bear (2003), dropping comedy albums, and making appearances at fan conventions. He had explained later on that as a single parent, he had found it to be impossible to manage to bring up his kids and at the same time to do the traveling involved in making films.
- After a nearly 23-year break from working in the film industry, Moranis finally signed to star in a sequel to the comic science fiction film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) called Shrunk.
- In 2013, Rick disclosed that he has avoided airplanes in favor of driving but the reason has not been being scared of flying. He has just not liked the dragged out process of flying that has consisted of getting to the airport a few hours early to handling unwell seatmates. Rick had got petrified after hearing stories of people stuck on the tarmac for several hours and has stated that if that ever happened to him, he would make the headlines of newspapers the next day as he would surely fake a heart attack or a meltdown. He has deducted it to be the best for him to stay away from airports.
