Hall’s professional career began in 1984 in National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Florida territory Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF). He trained together with Dan Spivey in Florida but when the two were about to debut, they were sent to Jim Crockett’s Charlotte, North Carolina territory.

The duo didn’t have much success there and went to Bob Geigel’s NWA Central States territory. In 1985, Hall moved to AWA (American Wrestling Association) where the owner wanted to make him a star like Hulk Hogan. He travelled to Japan where he wrestled between 1987 and 1990.

Hall held the AWA Tag Team Championships but after they lost them, they parted ways and Hall left for the NWA in 1989. He was brought into NWA’S WCW territory by Jim Ross where he wrestled a couple of roadshows before making his in-ring debut on June 16. Hall returned to WCW in 1991 and after working for the company for a year, he left on May 8.

He joined the WWF later that month and the character, Razor Ramone, was born after he drew the idea from the movie, Scarface. He later made his in-ring debut on August 8, 1992. The superstar had alternating departures and returns to WCW and WWF and also worked for other companies like TNA and NJPW.
