Megalyn Echikunwoke was born to Onigwe Echikunwoke, an Igbo Nigerian parent, and Anita Laurie in Spokane, Washington. Her father, an immigrant to the United States, was a survivor of the Nigerian Civil War, where he was wounded by gunshots and contracted hepatitis B.
