Edgar Hoover, the FBI director, put Davis on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitive List on August 18, four days after the warrant was issued; she was the third woman and the 309th person to be listed.

Davis embarked on a worldwide speaking tour in 1972 after her acquittal, which included a stop in Cuba, where she had previously been visited by Fidel Castro as a part of a Communist Party delegation in 1969.
