In an essay for Elle magazine earlier this year, Taylor Swift revealed the heart-shattering news that her mother’s breast cancer has returned. But not just that, the pop star has now revealed that doctors have also detected a tumor in Andrea’s brain.
Who is Andrea Swift?
Andrea Swift, born 1958 in Pennsylvania, is the mother of pop-star Taylor Swift. She is the daughter of Robert Bruch and Marjorie Finlay. Her mother (Taylor’s maternal grandmother) was an opera singer. Andrea studied at Memorial High School, Houston and is married to Scott. She also has a son who is named Austin. In Taylor’s initial years, it was Andrea who presented her tapes to recording labels on Music row. She has always supported and been there for Taylor, helping Taylor-keeping her up to date with school, accompanying her to concerts and keeping an eye on her tours. She is a great friend and mother to Taylor, standing sturdy as her rock even during tough times.
Andrea’s Battle with Cancer
In 2015, Taylor revealed in a saddening statement that her 62-year-old mother was suffering from breast cancer. She received treatment for her cancer back then. Unfortunately, Taylor shared last year that her breast cancer had returned. Now recently, while undergoing chemotherapy for the breast cancer, doctors discovered a tumor growing in her brain. With symptoms of brain cancer being completely different to what they had experienced in the past, the family is slowly coping with Andrea’s diagnosis.
How is Taylor dealing with it?
Taylor, being extremely close to her mother has said that she will undoubtedly make more time to spend with her mother this year. She even skipped the Grammy’s this year in order to be able to spend more quality time with her family.
“Everyone loves their mom; everyone’s got an important mom,” the 30-year-old music star said. “But for me, she’s really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So obviously it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness.”
The singer has addressed her mother’s cancer treatment in her documentary “Miss Americana” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last week. In her newest album “Lover” she has dedicated a song to her mother named “Soon You’ll Get Better”.
She has stated that although she will do stadium dates in the U.S and some music festivals in Europe, she has not scheduled a world tour for this year due to the diagnosis. “But I also wanted to be able to work as much as I can handle right now, with everything that’s going on at home. And I wanted to figure out a way that I could do both those things.” She says she is trying her best to be there for her family while balancing her work. I mean, we don’t know what is going to happen,” she said. “It just was the decision to make at the time, for right now, for what’s going on.”
Let us all send our prayers and positive thoughts to Andrea Swift in hopes of a good and speedy recovery.
