Andrew Scott is an accomplished Irish actor who garnered much recognition for his character Jim Moriarty in the widely popular BBC crime drama series Sherlock. Andrew studied at a private boys’ Jesuit Catholic school called Gonzaga College in South Dublin and attended drama classes for children every Saturday. His acting classes proved to be fruitful and he got cast in two commercials for a local television network as well as landed a lead role in an Irish film at the age of 17.

He earned a bursary/scholarship to study fine arts but decided to enroll in the drama program of Trinity College in Dublin instead. After 6 months of college, Andrew dropped out and joined Abbey Theatre, also known as National Theatre of Ireland, to learn acting on this full-time job.

Few years down the line following his performance in 6 plays in Dublin, Andrew relocated to live in London at the age of 22.

1. Had he not been an actor, Andrew would have chosen to become a painter.
2. He earned £78 for one of his earliest acting jobs, the Flahavan Porridge commercial with which he bought himself a bunk bed.
3. In the early years of his career, at times there were such long gaps in between his employment projects that the actor could not afford to buy his daily meals.
4. Andrew lost representation of his US-based talent agency after he refused to work in a high profile TV series because he was not interested in entrapping himself in a multi-year, long-term commitment to play a single character.
5. When cast as a Soviet Diplomat in Legacy (2013), Andrew started watching YouTube videos of to imitate his accent.
