  1. Her first sport was softball.
  2. Her biological parents are separated and her mother worked multiple jobs to support their family. When she was a toddler, her mother started dating Brian Stewart and the two eventually got married. Several years later, she received the name Stewart and began using it as her surname.
  3. She started playing basketball at a young age.
  4. With her tall height, coaches would want her inside as a rebounder. But, her father believed it would be better if she had ball-handling and shooting skills. She then started training with a routine of dribbling around her block with headphones on. She continued the same routine almost every day which helped improved her ball-handling to the point of being able to dribble behind her back or between her legs.
  5. In a 2017 essay reported by The Players’ Tribune, she publicly revealed that she was a victim of s*xual abuse when she was 9 years old until the age of 11. She reported the abuse to her parents who were quick to take action by calling the police. The suspect who turned out to be the husband of her mother’s sister admitted the abuse and ultimately served time behind bars.
  6. Back in high school, she was nicknamed Bean by her teammates and 6-10 because of her wingspan. She first played in high school when she was still in 8th grade.
  7. She was selected as a member of the 2012 McDonald’s All-American team, which represented the 24 best female high school basketball players. They were grouped into 2 squads that competed in the annual McDonald’s All-American Game, which was held in Chicago that same year.
  8. Stewart was also selected in the 2012 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) High School Coaches’ All-America Team. The top 20 high school players in the country were named WBCA All-Americans and were eligible to play in the all-star game.
  9. She participated in the 2012 WBCA High School All-America Game, scoring 10 points.  Stewart was named the 2012 Naismith High School Girls’ “Player of the Year” during which the honor was awarded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to the best female high school basketball player in the country.
  10. In March 2012, in a surprise presentation by Tamika Catchings, she received the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award and was one of 6 finalists for the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year.
  11. Her WNBA career kicked off after she was drafted first overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. She played alongside basketball superstar and court veteran point guard . In her debut game in a match against Los Angeles Sparks, she demonstrated an impressive performance and made an impact in the league by scoring 23 points.
