Mintz-Plasse started out as Fogell in the film, Superbad, since he was 17, it was required that his mother be present on set when filming the sex scenes. Upon release, the film earned critical and commercial success with many critics praising Mintz-Plasse for his performance. In 2008, he appeared with Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott in Role Models as Augie Farques, a nerdy teenager with an obsession with medieval live-action role-playing games.
He then starred in Harold Ramis’ film, Year One, as a comedic version of the biblical figure, Isaac. He also appeared in a short film called The Tale of RJ which ended up being the basis for the series, The Hard Times of RJ Berger. The next year, he voiced Fishlegs in the animated film, How To Train Your Dragon. Actually, he reprised this role in the other sequels of the film. He was also a part of David Wain’s internet series, Wainy Days.
