  1. He first entered the showbiz industry as a video jockey on Mnet in 2000.
  2. In 2001, he made his acting debut in the television series School. It was then followed with a couple of supporting roles both in movies and on television.
  3. In 2004, Yoo hosted the music program Music Camp.
  4. He landed his first major role in 2005 after he was cast on SBS’s Hello My Teacher with on-screen partner . In 2006, he appeared on another romance melodrama project One Fine Day.
  5. In 2007, Yoo’s biggest career breakthrough came after he was cast in MBC’s romantic-comedy TV drama, Coffee Prince. The hit drama did not only serve as his biggest milestone during his early years but it also earned him the title as a “Hallyu” star.
  6. He was enlisted for the military mandatory service in South Korea on January 14, 2008, which lasted until December 8, 2009. There, he was placed on the frontline active service in Cheorwon for 8 months and was then transferred to the Defense Media Agency where he worked in the public relations department and hosted as a DJ for the army radio station.
  7. Gong Yoo made his most anticipated comeback from the mandatory service in the romantic-comedy film Finding Mr. Destiny in 2010, which turned out a medium box office hit in Korea.

In November 2013, he was appointed as a special representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Korea amidst a celebration of the 24th year since the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) was adopted. Not too long after his appointment, Gong Yoo started visiting countries globally to raise awareness of the children’s set of circumstances in undeveloped countries.
