His foster parents had him trained in acrobatics, dancing, and gymnastic as early as 18 months. By the time he turned three years old, he was doing great in many public presentations. His career got shaken in 1988 when he suffered a severe head injury. The injury made him bleed a lot while in the water that scared the hell out of him and his competitors who feared contracting AIDs. However, his doctor was optimistic and assured the competitors that there was nothing to worry about since the viral load was diluted in water and poses no threat of infecting others. Luckily, he managed to participate in a championship that won him the title of Athlete of the Year. He secured a job to be the SoCal Divers club coach.
