At the same time, Glass was a member of the school’s drama club which opened doors for him to be featured in various productions like; South Pacific and Damn Yankees among others.

After graduating from high school, he was enrolled at Northwestern University which is located in Evanston, Illinois where he initially took a pre-medical course. Although he tried to fulfil his parent’s dreams for him, most of his time in school was spent making promos at the University’s radio station. He later transferred to Brown University, where he majored in semiotics to try to fulfil his own childhood dream. He graduated in 1982.

This man did not only concentrate much on his career but he also had time to fall in love. Initially, he was in a relation with cartoonist and author Lynda Barry. Lynda briefly joined Ira in Washington D.C but in the summer of 1989, she moved to Chicago to be near fellow cartoonists and Glass followed her. They however broke up and Ira said that this was the worst thing he had ever done.

He however didn’t give up on love and in August 2005, he exchanged marriage vows with Anaheed Alani. The two had dated initially, but they had a harsh splitting but after some considerations, they decided to give it another chance. The couple however had issues since 2014 and he later announced they were separating in 2017 which was followed by their divorce in 2018. They didn’t have kids together.

After following his girlfriend to Chicago, he continued working on two public radio programs titled; The Wild Room and All Things considered. Later, he became a co-host of the two. He later developed This American Life after MacArthur Foundation gave him a grant. He worked on this with Torey Malatia.
