1. Neesham was raised in Auckland.
2. James began his first-class debut with Auckland. However, he decided to join the Otago Volts.
3. He trained under the careful guidance of David James Gordon who had passed away during the cricket world cup in 2019. His coach died on the day of the match between England and New Zealand.
