Terry was born on the 15th of September in 1977 as Jason Eugene Terry in Washington in the United States of America. The names of some of his siblings are Curtis, Caleb and Lyric Terry. Terry was raised by his mother, Andrea Cheatham, and father, Curtis Terry, as one of their ten sons. Curtis, one of his teammates, played professional basketball from 2008 to 2012. Martell Webster, a former NBA star, is Terry’s cousin.

Professional Career

Terry was drafted with the 10th overall selection in the NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks in 1999. Terry had a team and career high 19.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.3 steals in the 2000–01 season.

Terry was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks on August 4, 2004, along with Alan Henderson and a potential first-round draft pick, by the Hawks in exchange for Antoine Walker and Tony Delk. In Dallas, he was known by his initials JET, and he is known for imitating an aircraft with his arms as the wings. Despite arriving as Steve Nash’s replacement following the controversial decision to let Nash exit free agency, he soon became a crowd favourite.

Terry played in a team-high 80 games in his first season in Dallas, starting 57 of the final 58 games and averaging 12.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.4 steals in 30.0 minutes per game. He and Steve Nash are the first players in NBA history to shoot at least 50% from the field, 40% from 3-point range, and 80% from the foul line.

Terry signed a multi-year contract with the Boston Celtics on July 18, 2012. During the 2012–13 season, he scored 10.1 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.84 steals in 26.9 minutes per game. On December 1, 2001, he had his first double-double as a Celtic, with 17 points, a season-high 11 assists, and three steals against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets agreed to exchange Terry, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett for potential first-round selections in the 2014, 2016, and 2018 NBA drafts, as well as Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, MarShon Brooks, and Keith Bogans on June 28, 2013, the day of the NBA draft. The agreement was signed on July 12, 2013.

Terry was traded to the Sacramento Kings on February 19, 2014, along with Reggie Evans, for Marcus Thornton. Terry did not join the team in 2013–14 due to a lingering knee injury; however, he would rehab the injury in Dallas in preparation for 2014–15. During his time with the Kings, he did not play in a single game.

Terry was dealt to the Houston Rockets on September 17, 2014, along with two potential second-round picks, for Alonzo Gee and Scotty Hopson. Terry scored a 3-pointer in the third quarter of a 110–95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on December 22, 2014, to become the third player in NBA history to score 2,000 three-pointers, following Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. Terry re-signed with the Rockets on August 24, 2015. He parted ways with the Rockets in July 2016. Terry was a part of the United States team that played in Brisbane, Australia, in the 2001 Goodwill Games.
