Jean-Éric Vergne is a French professional racing driver who became the first driver to win successive Formula E world championships, after clinching the title in both the 2017-18 and the 2018-19 seasons. He had also participated in the premier Formula One tier as both a competitive racer and a test driver in the early and mid-2010s. Before joining F1, he had proved his mettle at several intermediate tiers, winning the 2007 Formula Campus Renault series and the 2010 British Formula 3 Championship. He had also finished as a runner-up at the 2009 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series, the 2009 Formula Renault 2.0 WEC championship, and the 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 Series. In 2018, he competed in and finished 2nd at the European Le Mans Series.

Jean-Éric Vergne Facts

1. He began racing karts from the age of just 4 and used to practice at his father’s kart track just outside Paris.
2. In 2001, at the age of 11, he became the French champion in the Minimes category. He stood 2nd in the French Rotax Max championship in 2004 and finished as a runner-up again in 2005 in the ICA class of the European Championship.
3. His domination of the 2010 British Formula 3 Championship was such that he won the title with 6 races remaining in the season. It was the 3rd successive year that a driver from the Red Bull Junior Team had won this title with Carlin Motorsport, after Jaime Alguersuari in 2008 and in 2009.
4. In the 2017-18 season of Formula E, he wrapped up the title with a race to spare and became the 4th different driver to win the title after the championship’s inaugural season in 2014-15. He broke that streak in the following season when he became the first driver to win the Formula E title twice.
5. He is one of the co-founders of the Veloce Racing XE team that competes in the Extreme E racing series where E-SUVs compete in the most remote and extreme areas of the world that have been impacted by climate change.
