Joan Celia Lee Facts
- In an interview, Joan stated that she was inspired by her father Stan Lee’s work ethic and creativity and had wanted to follow in his footsteps as a writer or as an illustrator. She used to do comic book layouts as a teenager and helped her father with his work at Marvel Studios into adulthood.
- She published a photobook in 2015 titled It’s All About Love: The Stan Lee Family as a tribute to her parents.
- In 2017, she partnered with Social Media Applications to create an app named SuperKids which was meant as a platform to help young children develop literacy skills. The proceeds from the app were donated to several charities.
- In June 2019, Joan sued her father’s former business manager, Max Anderson. She claimed that Max had stolen millions of dollars from Stan during his lifetime. Her lawsuit claimed that Max had regularly taken over and above his fee out of several of Stan’s commercial transactions. She also accused him of making Stan sign agreements that he could not understand/read and of forcing Stan into marathon signing sessions and public appearances that left him physically strained.
- In August 2019, she took a controversial but principled stand on her father’s legacy. It was announced that the comic book character “Spiderman” would be moved out of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) after Disney and Sony Pictures failed to settle on an amicable deal. Marvel fans were quite upset with the development but Joan stated forcefully that no production house should have a monopoly on the beloved comic book superhero that her father had created.
- She also alleged that her father’s legacy had been treated very poorly by the executives of Marvel and Disney, even though it was her father’s characters that had been primarily responsible for the unprecedented box office success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Stan’s former managers and business associates had leveled allegations against Joan that she used to abuse and physically hurt her parents. However, Stan had always denied this stating that his associates were trying to create a rift in his family for their benefits.
- Joan is also the owner of a website named fatsalagata.com, through which she sells her books and Stan Lee-related merchandise online. The site is also meant to be a homage to her father and has collections of her photos, visits, and tours that she did with him.
