Álex Rins is a Spanish professional motorcycle racer who began competing in the premier MotoGP tier in 2017 after a string of impressive performances in the intermediate tiers. He finished 5th, 2nd, and 3rd in successive years (2012-2014) at the Moto 3 World Championship which helped him earn a promotion to Moto 2. At the Moto 2 World Championship, he continued his strong showing, finishing 2nd in 2015 and 3rd in 2016, performances that earned him a contract with Team Suzuki Ecstar to participate in the MotoGP World Championship for the 2017 season. After a difficult first year, marred by a broken wrist, Álex turned his fortunes around and ended the 2018 and 2019 MotoGP seasons in the 5th and 4th positions, respectively.

1. Álex, before graduating to the Moto 3 World Championship in 2012, had won the 2011 Spanish 125GP series.
2. For his performances at the 2012 Moto 3 World Championship, he was named ‘Rookie of the Year.’
3. Álex has mainly used 42 as his bike number in his senior career, including at the Moto3 and MotoGP tiers. However, for the 2 years (2015-2016) that he was plying his trade at the Moto2 tier, he had to use the number 40 due to sponsorship issues.
4. In 2015, he was named ‘Rookie of the Year’, this time for his performances in the Moto2 tier.
5. His first race win at the MotoGP level came at the 2019 Grand Prix of the Americas, and it was also the Suzuki team’s first win since Maverick Viñales triumphed at the 2016 British Grand Prix.
