She was born in Greenwich, Connecticut in the United States of America to Raymond Charles Arthur Put and his wife Marshelline “Marshie” Purl. Her father Raymond was a chemical-industry executive who was born in 1915 and passed on in 2015 at a 100years. Her mother Marsheline is however still alive to date, but it is not clear how old she is.

Linda was not the only child in the family since she has a sister named Mara but not a lot is known about her. She is the granddaughter of Beatrice Saville who is the Actors’ Equity Association founder. Purl moved to Japan with her family since her father was an employee at Nippon Unicar. On 23rd July 1993, she tied the knot with Alexander Cary, Master of Falkland who is a British screenwriter and producer. The couple welcomed a son on 6th February 1995 and named him Lucius. Their marriage however didn’t last long as they divorced shortly after. Her last marriage was on 15th July 2006 to James Vinson Adams and just like her other marriages, it ended up in a divorce.
