Marc Summers is an American TV personality, comedian, TV host, director, producer, and actor, best known for hosting Double Dare, a Nickelodeon TV game show that aired between 1986 and 1988. After decades of others hosting the show, Marc came back once again in 2000 as the executive consultant, after which he was hired for the show’s reboot in 2018 alongside host , as both the announcer and executive producer. Marc had a long history of being a TV show host – Super Sloppy Double Dare (1989), Couch Potatoes (1989), WinTuition (2002-2013), Food Network Star (2006-2007), and Ultimate Recipe Showdown (2009) were just part of his portfolio. A large part of the audience considered his hosting of Unwrapped (2002-2015) on Food Network, and being the executive producer and occasionally appearing on the shows Dinner: Impossible (2007-2010) and Restaurant: Impossible (2011-2016), also on Food Network, to be his most notable achievements.

Marc was also a judge on shows Robot Chicken (2011, 2016), Rewrapped (2014), and Guy’s Grocery Games (2015-2017), and appeared as himself on The Chew (2012-2014), Rachael Ray (2009-2016), Home & Family (2015-2016), and The Best Thing I Ever Ate (2009-2016). He also shared a lot about his life and struggles with illnesses, most notably with Everything in Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (1999), a VHS box set that later costed him various jobs, as well as On Your Marc (2017), which documented his life, career, and friends, as well as the aftermath of his chronic lymphatic leukemia diagnosis in 2009.

Marc Summers Facts

1. He changed his born name Berkowitz to the stage name Summers due to the media attention surrounding the serial killer David Berkowitz in 1977, who was known as the Son of Sam or .44 Caliber Killer.
2. Before he became a TV host, he worked as a stand-up comedian, radio disc jockey, magician, and had a minor career in the production of television shows.
3. In 1993, his daughter Meredith appeared as an assistant on the TV show Pick Your Brain that Marc hosted.
4. His mentors were Bob Parker and Wink Martindale, both widely recognized TV hosts in the United States.
5. During the time he hosted Double Dare game show between 1986 and 1988, his favorite obstacle course was the Gum Drop.
6. Marc, despite being in the entertainment industry for a while, didn’t get to host a game show until he was 34 years old. That was because the network claimed he needed more experience under his belt, and had other TV host veterans already actively hosting.
7. He was known for the water fight with , a well-known actor that died on September 6, 2018. It escalated into an aggressive pie fight on the Jay Leno’s Tonight Show in 1994.
8. In 1996, Marc went public with the illness he suffered from – obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and supported the Freedom from Fear organization that deals with behavior disorders. Despite his OCD, he could shake hands, communicate with fans, and stay focused at events.
9. In August 2012, while he was in a taxi as a passenger in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the car crashed, and Marc suffered massive injuries to his face. It resulted in many of his bones being broken and him almost losing sight in his left eye. The reason he got hurt badly was the sturdy partition between him and the taxi driver that he hit head-on in full speed.
10. In 2009, after suffering from stomach problems, exploratory surgery concluded that Marc had chronic lymphatic leukemia, a form of blood cancer. He started chemotherapy soon after, and he said that those 2 years were “brutal”. Luckily, he went into remission in 2016 but mentioned that he may need further treatment in April 2018.
