Labelle signed a contract with epic records in a solo contract and released her self-titled debut solo album with hits like Joy to Have Your Love, Dan Swit Me, you are My Friend. She got a major crossover success in1984 with singles New Attitude and Stir It Up recorded for the Eddie Murphy film Beverly Hills Cop. In 1986, she released Winner in You with a couple of successful singles like on my own and oh people and Gem was clarified to be the best and allowed the single The Right Kind of Lover.
