What happened to Prince Philip?

While there is much speculation about what had exactly happened to Prince Philip, there has been no official statement from the Buckingham Palace regarding the cause. They’ve only stated that the Prince had been admitted in the hospital due to a “pre-existing health condition”.

It has been known that the Prince was not taken into the hospital in an ambulance due to an emergency. He had walked into the hospital and got admitted into the hospital as a “precautionary measure” as advised by his doctor.

In the recent years, Prince Philip has been taken to the hospital several times. In 2012, he was admitted to the hospital many times due to bladder infections. And just last April, he had an elective hip surgery as well.

Last year, the Prince caused a car crash near Sandringham. The Duke’s Land Rover collided with another car and landed on its side. Although he was uninjured, Emma Fairweather, a passenger in the other car suffered a broken wrist. After this incident, Prince Philip gave up his driving license voluntarily.

While many have criticized the queen as to why she did not visit the prince at the hospital, Royal expert Victoria Arbiter says that it is rather normal for royals to not visit each other at the hospital. She says this is mainly for security purposes and in order not to cause more stress to the families of other patients and their families at the hospital. Although some royals have visited each other at the hospital in the past, this is typically not the “norm” in the royal family.
