- He was brought up in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- In his early ’20s, R-Truth sold cocaine in an effort to make some money. He was arrested on 4 different accounts and also spent short periods of time in jail. The longest that he was incarcerated was for 13 months.
- He was still a child when he started to develop an interest in hip-hop and breakdancing.
- While he studied at Harding University High School, R-Truth played football alongside the future Major League Baseball 2nd baseman Ray Durham. He was also a good athlete who took part in the field and track games. During that time, he also received several scholarships but turned them down in order to follow his passion for music.
- It had been a lifelong dream of his to become part of the music industry. He finally achieved this feat with the release of his debut studio album Invinceable in 2003.
