- While growing up in Venezuela, he excelled in baseball. However, in 1999, he and his father decided that he should go for soccer and therefore, he moved back to Colombia.
- He was initially bullied in Venezuela because he wasn’t very good at baseball. However, he worked hard and drastically improved his skills.
- In August 1999, he made his debut for Colombian Categoría Primera B (second tier) team Lanceros Boyacá. He was 13 years and 199 days old at that time, thus, making him the youngest debutant in the Colombian soccer.
- Before he moved to River Plate in February 2001, he had trained with Bogota based Colombian powerhouse, Millonarios. But, they decided against purchasing him.
- In 2008, River Plate reportedly knocked back $15 million offer from AC Milan. They also had rejected offers from Aston Villa and Fluminense.
- In 2009, he moved to the Portuguese giants Porto. However, he had come very close to moving to their rivals Benfica but the transfer collapsed after he asked €700,000 to complete the move.
- In his second season with Porto, he excelled under André Villas-Boas and managed to score 38 goals in 42 matches. His side managed to win a treble of UEFA Europa League, Portuguese league title, and a domestic cup.
- In August 2011, he moved to Atlético Madrid as they agreed to buy him in a deal worth €40 million. The deal would rise to €50 million with performance-related clauses, making him the first player to reach €40 million fees for the Madrid based club.
- In August 2012, he established himself as one of the best strikers by single-handedly dismantling Chelsea in a 4-1 victory in UEFA Super Cup competition.
- Despite courting interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea, he decided to move to AS Monaco in May 2013. The newly promoted French club paid €60 million to Atletico Madrid and decided to pay Falcao a yearly salary of over €18 million.
- In January 2014, he suffered an ACL injury that made it impossible for him to represent his national side at the 2014 World Cup. He was initially included in the 30 probable players list but, he eventually held a press conference to tearfully reveal that he won’t be able to play.
- After playing for Manchester United and Chelsea in successive one-year loans, he returned to Monaco at the start of 2016-17 season and went on to lead his side to a surprising French league title victory. He finished the season with 30 goals from 43 matches.
