During the year 1995 to 1996, he played in almost 65 games in which he scored 655 points, played for 1,788 minutes, and fractured his left thumb. Later he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, and he played well and was ranked 3rd in the league; and as he was going smoothly, he again broke his left thumb and forced to miss the season for a month.

In the next season, he had signed a contract to stay with Trail Blazers, but unfortunately, he has suffered from various missteps and set an NBA record with 38 technical fouls for a season. The next year he broke his own record effortlessly with 40 technical fouls, and later, he was suspended from the seven games by NBA.

In the years 2000 and 2001, Rasheed was considered as an NBA All-Star, which led him and his incredible team to the Western Conference Finals for the two years that is  1999 and 2000, in which they lost the match to San Antonio Spurs and Lakers, respectively.

Due to his injury, he retired on June 25th, 2010, and in October 2012, he returned to play for the New York Knick. Again due to his injury (foot Injury), he finally retired on April 17th, 2013.
