  1. Bodybuilders Chris Dickerson, Bob Paris, and François Benfatto inspired him to pursue bodybuilding himself.
  2. Shawn broke his high school’s record for the longest run from scrimmage, at 98 yards or 89.5 meters in 1983. He also set the school’s record for all-time rushing. Both records were never broken.
  3. In his honor, his high school’s football team, El Dorado Golden Hawks, retired the jersey with a number 1. They also inducted him into their “Football Hall of Fame” in October 2003.
  4. Shawn Ray earned his Pro card by winning the title of Mr. California in 1987.
  5. He signed his 1st contract with a professional bodybuilding sponsor in 1998. He made his professional debut at the IFBB Night of Champions the same year.
  6. Shawn was mentioned in the book The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding (1999) written by and Bill Dobbins.
  7. He released a book titled The Shawn Ray Way in 2001.

  10. He was the 1st professional bodybuilder to fail a drug test at the 1990 Arnold Classic and thus lost the title. However, he became a Champion the next year.

  12. He got the nickname ‘Giant Killer’ for beating bodybuilders who were often 4 to 5 inches taller than him, and at least 40 to 50 lbs heavier.
