Shin Koyamada is an American actor, producer, entrepreneur and martial artist who gained worldwide recognition after he debuted in the Warner Bros. blockbuster starring titled The Last Samurai (2003) which was nominated for numerous awards including the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes. He then appeared in Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior (2006), which became one of the highest viewed Disney Channel movies in the U.S. and one of the highest-rated kids’ channels in Europe, U.K., and Japan. After that, he starred in several successful films and shows, as well as produced movies, shows, comics, and video games through Shinca Entertainment which he and his wife founded.

- He has trained and disciplined his body, mind, and spirit starting from childhood to the current day with several skilled teachers and has become an elite martial artist.
- His father fostered in him a love for American and Hong Kong action films which they would regularly watch together.
- When he was in high school, he was team captain in gymnastics and competed in the Okayama Prefecture tournament for 3 years. He had also enrolled in a Karate school and that was his first martial arts experience. He used to train every weekend to hone his skills with the urge and goal to move to Hollywood.
- Koyamada used to live in Japan. In mid-June 2000, he got himself enrolled in the ESL program at the University of California in Riverside and later that year he shifted to Hollywood alone, not knowing anybody, having nowhere to stay, and not even knowing how to speak English. He started going to a Chinese martial arts school in Los Angeles and began to train in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu for 5 hours every day and 6 days a week.
- He holds black belts in Japanese and Korean martial arts and has also won a U.S. national championship in Chinese martial arts.
- In 2010, he founded the charity event called the United States Martial Arts Festival where funds have been raised for a scholarship program for encouraging and assisting the youth to train in private martial arts schools.
- In 2017, Koyamada was elected for the Sister Cities International Board of Directors that brings together more than 500 member communities with more than 2,000 partnerships in 145 countries. He is the first native-born Japanese to be chosen for this position.
