Simon Amstell is an English comedian, writer, TV presenter, and director who has performed stand-up comedy tours and live performances across the world. He had started his career by co-presenting the entertainment-based program Popworld (2000-2006) which went on to attain cult status for his antics. Simon then began hosting the comedy panel game show, in October 2006, Never Mind the Buzzcocks which he left in 2009 to focus more on stand-up comedy. He has also written and directed the 2017 mockumentary Carnage and a comedy-drama film titled Benjamin (2018). In 2016, he had hosted the Evening Standard British Film Awards. In September 2017, his first book titled Help, a collection of stand-up scripts and related stories was published.

- Simon’s parents got divorced when he was a teenager, in the early 1990s, and he has often stated that his parent’s divorce along with the fact that he was circumcised at birth were the 2 events that have chiefly influenced his career as a stand-up comic.
- In 1994, he had appeared in an episode of Family Catchphrase, a game show, where he performed magic tricks in front of the show’s host Andrew O’Connor, who was a magician himself. He won a TV set and a video recorder for his act.
- He was featured in the English pop-rock band McFly‘s music video for the song titled All About You. The song was chosen as the official single of the 2005 edition of the annual Comic Relief charity.
