Personal Trainer

T.J. Dillashaw follows a grueling workout regime to keep his conditioning at the top level. In the gym, he usually focuses on training his fast twitch muscles and for this purpose, he relies on explosive exercises and moves. To build up muscles, he focuses on supersets. However, he doesn’t believe in isolating muscles and prefers to train multiple muscle groups in a single session.

He also pays a special attention to his diet, which is close to a complete  because he has to eat carbs for energy so he can’t completely go for a ketogenic diet. He completely stays away from sugars, grains, and processed food. His daily diet, which is divided into 3 meals and 3 snacks, goes like –

  • Breakfast – He starts his day with an omelet with broccoli, spinach, cheese, and ham. He also adds and cold-pressed juice to his first meal of the day.
  • Lunch – He prefers a salad with lots of greens and spinach and also adds chicken and broiled eggs to the salad.
  • Dinner – The last meal of the day is fish or any other source of clean .
  • Snacks – To curb hunger in between meals, he usually snacks on protein bars and nuts.

T.J. Dillashaw Facts

  1. Apart from the high school wrestling team, he has also played for his school’s football team in his junior year at Bret Harte High School.
  2. Dillashaw’s record as a junior high school wrestler was 45-7 and he ended his career as a high school wrestler with an overall record of 170-33. He also finished in the 2nd position at the CIF State championships in his senior year.
  3. After he graduated from the university, he was invited to train at Reign Training Center fighter class by Mark Munoz, who was competing in UFC middleweight division and had coached at the California State University for 3 years.
  4. After having trained at Reign Training Center for a year and a half, he was encouraged by Munoz to start training with Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California.
  5. In December 2011, T.J. got an opportunity to fight at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was his UFC debut and he fought John Dodson in the final of the bantamweight tournament but ended up losing the bout via technical knockout.
  6. In May 2014, he became the new Bantamweight champion after overcoming the reigning champion, Renan Barão, via TKO in the 5th round. It was one of the biggest upsets in the history of MMA and UFC.
  7. In January 2016, he had to drop his Bantamweight title after a split decision in a bout against former champion . He recaptured his title by knocking out Cody Garbrandt in the 2nd round.
