Tarso Marques Facts

  1. Just like most professional racing drivers, Tarso had begun his journey racing karts from a young age. He had started competing from the age of just 11 and continued for nearly 5 years. At the age of 16, in 1992, he made his single-seater racing debut with the Formula Chevrolet series in his native Brazil and managed to win the championship in his very first attempt.
  2. A year later, in 1993, he competed in both the Formula Three Sudamericana championship and the European Formula 3000 series. At the age of just 17 that year, he won races in both competitions and was the youngest driver at that time to win races in both of those events.
  3. He was given a prestigious Formula One seat in 1996 itself when he was just 20 years old. This made him one of the youngest drivers ever to start an F1 race.
  4. However, insufficient opportunities, inconsistent results, and an inability to acquire sponsors for a financially weak team meant that he had to leave the competition at the end of the 1997 season. In all, including the 2001 season, he started 24 F1 races across 3 seasons but never managed to score any championship points.
