First Album

Troy Ave released his debut studio album New York City: The Album on November 4, 2013, under the BSB Records recording label. The album consisted of 17 tracks and was met with a very positive review by both the audience and critics. It debuted at number 47 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States the same year.

  1. He began his professional rap career in 2009 with his debut mixtape I’m In Traffick, released on August 17 of that year under BSB Records.
  2. He was born into a poor family living in the Crown Heights neighboorhood of Brooklyn, New York City.
  3. His artist name, Troy Ave, stems from the name of a street near his childhood home – Troy Avenue in Brooklyn, New York City.
  4. Troy was named “2014 Freshmen Class” by XXL magazine that year.
  5. On his social media, Troy constantly tries to motivate his fans to wake up earlier and work harder on their dreams. He proclaims that if you have health, you’ve got the base to achieve greatness, and leave a legacy for your children.
  6. According to him and his “Street Code”, fatherhood, family, friends, and “homies” are all precious, and something you should never leave hanging, and thus protect at all costs.
  7. In 2015, he started a beef with the rapper , also from Brooklyn. Joey claimed he was “number 1 independent hip hop recording artist in the world”, while Troy pointed out he was signed by a major recording label, subsidiary of the Sony Music Entertainment. As a part of their feud, Troy released a diss track titled Badass in February 2016, on which he also insulted another rapper, Capital STEEZ, who was a good friend of Joey.
  8. The reason behind Troy’s insults of Capital STEEZ was that he committed suicide by jumping off a building in December 2012. Troy was always religious and said that God gave him life for a reason and that it wasn’t up to Capital to forcibly take that gift away.
  9. Troy’s diss track was met with heavy criticism of fans and also by well-known rappers like A$AP Ant, A$AP Twelvyy, and . Joey responded to his track with a freestyle of his own in March 2016 on a TV show. Despite all efforts of other artists, their feud still stood as of early 2019.

On May 26, 2016, he was arrested for illegal weapon possession and attempted murder at the concert of a rapper in Irving Plaza, Manhattan, New York City. 4 people were shot, and 1 was killed – Edgar McPhatter, Troy’s friend and his bodyguard. The surveillance footage showed Troy shooting a gun multiple times, which led police to conclude that he was the one that shot his bodyguard. He disputed those claims and said that he shot in self-defense and that an unknown assailant killed Ronald. He was released on bail in July 2016 and was in trial in April 2019.
  11. Troy said that he loves fishing and wearing fur, but also has a passion and business sense for buying, renovating, and selling homes.
  12. On Christmas day, December 25, 2016, Troy was shot by an unknown, hooded assailant while he was sitting in his bright red Maserati car in Brooklyn with his girlfriend. Luckily, he was only grazed in the head, and hit in the arm once. The well-known rapper 50 Cent came to visit him in the hospital.
  13. In late 2016, a thief stole Troy’s laptop with videos of him in what seemed a s*x tape of him and an unknown girl and tried to blackmail him with a lot of money. Troy didn’t give in and released the footage in the form of a music video for the self-titled song S*x Tape on December 23, 2016.
