After finishing his time at the National Guard, he went back to his acting career and was a guest star in the television shows; Adam-12, Love American Style, Knight Rider, Square Pegs, The Mod squad, The Hardy Boys, and Emergency. In the 1970s, he continued acting as he was working in the construction industry and studying Journalism and filmmaking.

From 1983 to 1989, he got the opportunity to become Wally Cleaver again. He was able to do this in a reunion television movie and also a subsequent series, The New Leave it to Beaver. In 2003, Dow made his most recent screen appearance in the film, Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.
