He grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
He is a third-degree black belt holder in Taekwondo and has also competed in national competitions while twice being a Junior Canadian National Taekwondo champion.
Alex Mallari Jr. left his pursuits in Taekwondo behind him when he was 13 years old and started playing basketball. He wanted to make a career in the same field but an injury prevented him from that.
It was while studying at the University of Toronto that he decided to try his hand at acting.
He made his first TV show appearance by playing the role of Kosoul Chanthakoummane in an episode titled Making a Killing of the documentary crime mystery series, Cold Blood, in August 2009.
Alex Mallari Jr. was cast as Hiro in the American television crime action drama series, True Justice, between 2010 and 2011.
