Between the years 1998 and 2001, he portrayed the character of Ersin in the drama television series, İkinci Bahar, whose lead cast comprised of , Türkan Şoray, Tarık Pabuççuoğlu, Güven Hokna, Özkan Uğur, Devin Özgür Çınar, Tan Sağtürk, and Bülent Oran.
Ali Atay starred as Mecnun Çınar, the son of middle-class Pakize and Iskender who is also an underachieving distance education student in the comedy TV show, Leyla and Mecnun, alongside the likes of Melis Birkan, Serkan Keskin, Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan, Cengiz Bozkurt, and Osman Sonant. Moreover, Ali Atay also won the award for “Best Comedy Actor” by Radikal as well as for “Best Male Comedy Actor” by Habertürk in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
He has been friends with actor Berkun Oya with whom he co-founded the Krek Theatre Company.
