  1. When she was 13 years old, her family decided to move to Jordan as they were apprehensive of the backlash received by the Muslims in the U.S. post 9/11.
  2. While living in Jordan, she started admiring her religion and grew more confident in her identity as a Muslim girl.
  3. However, her family decided to move back to the U.S. after her mother became ill. She wanted to spend some time with her relatives in New Jersey.
  4. At the age of 17, she decided to buy the domain, MuslimGirl.com, for $7 and started her famous blog from her bedroom. She believed that the blog would help her fight back against the wrong portrayal of Muslim and Middle Eastern women in the Western media.
  5. In 2015, she decided to hire volunteer staff to expand the scope of the magazine. By the end of the year, the magazine had attracted over 100 million hits in the same year.
  6. After graduating from university, she briefly worked with a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C.
  7. Later, she moved from Washington to New York City and started working with a major media organization. However, she only worked with the organization for a brief period of time.
  8. Her live coverage of the protests in Chicago after the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald, a 17-year-old African American, was highly praised.
  9. Her speech at the Women’s Mosque of America in Los Angeles became a viral hit. In her speech, she used ‘the pit’ from the movie, The Dark Knight Rises, as a metaphor to describe the condition and treatment of Muslim Americans after 9/11.
  10. In January 2016, she was asked to ring the opening bell for the NASDAQ stock exchange.
  11. In October 2016, she published her book, MuslimGirl: A Coming of Age, which proved to be a huge hit.
  12. In January 2018, she was given the Changemaker Award by Revlon. However, she insisted that she won’t accept the award as she didn’t agree with Revlon‘s decision to hire as their brand ambassador. Amani was particularly irked by Israeli actress’s support of Israeli Defense Forces which is regularly locked in battle with Palestinians.
  13. In 2016, she was approached by the Playboy for a non-nude editorial and interview. However, she decided to turn the offer down.
  14. She has often been criticized for whitewashing some of the alleged negative aspects of Islam.
  15. She holds the distinction of being the first veiled Muslim woman to have been featured in Forbes 30 under 30 editorial. Also, her blog is the first Muslim company to be included in the list by Forbes.
