He was best known for his acting career that spanned nearly 80 years, between 1919 and 1997, during which he appeared in more than 54 feature films as a star. His best-known role was that in the series of 7 movies, Road to Singapore (1940), Road to Zanzibar (1941), Road to Morocco (1942), Road to Utopia (1946), Road to Rio (1947), Road to Bali (1952), and The Road to Hong Kong (1962).

United States Congress passed the Bob Hope Arlington Honors Act of 2003, which allowed his remains to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, United States, as an honorary veteran of the United States Military.
