His parents owned a furniture store, but unfortunately, Jack died while he was 29 years and Brent ten months after suffering kidney failure. After the death of his father, his mother remarried Sol Mintz and took Brent as his own son. Brent used the surname Mintz for 20 years, between 1955 and 1975, after which he adopted his biological father’s surname.
