Cary Elwes is an English actor and writer who is best known for his portrayal of Westley in the 1987 film The Princess Bride. After his graduation in London, Cary moved to the United States and studied acting at various institutions where he received the opportunity to train under ‘s mentor, Charlie Laughton. While still in his teens, he landed a job as a production assistant on 3 films. While he was working on the sets of the 1978 film Superman, he was tasked with assisting legendary actor . After working in film productions for several years, Cary eventually started to get acting roles. He went on to star in more than 25 films in the 80s and 90s, portraying a wide variety of roles across multiple movie genres.

Cary has also crossed over to the TV industry and performed in theatre productions. In the mid-90s, he made his debut TV show appearance and in the next 15 years, he featured in leading and recurring roles in numerous TV films and series. In 2003, Cary made his theatre debut, co-starring with  when he portrayed Kerry Max Cook in the play The Exonerated. 1. He is associated with Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization that aims to help people in distressed communities. He began working with them after visiting the war-torn region of Darfur, Sudan, in 2008.
2. A distant relative of Cary, John Elwes, is believed to have been the inspiration for the iconic fictional character Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens’s classic book A Christmas Carol (1843). By a quirk of fate, Cary did voice and motion-capture work for 5 roles in the 2009 animated film adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
3. In 1999, he was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television” for portraying Colonel James Burton in the 1998 military comedy film The Pentagon Wars.
