In the 1989 film, God of Gamblers, Chow was able to bring out another side of his as a suave charmer, broad comedian and action hero. In the 1990s, the Los Angeles Times referred to him as the coolest actor on the planet. He moved to the USA in the mid-90s to replicate his success in in Hollywood as he did in Asia.
