Before getting into the world of wrestling, Bischoff was running a successful construction company. He then started pitching low-level marketing ideas to buyers until joining the American Wrestling Alliance in the late 80’s. AWA CEO, Verne Gagne gave the company to Bischoff, but things were already going south for the company. It folded in 1991, and he later tried to get a job at the WWF.

After a number of failed attempts, he was put in charge of WCW by Ted Turner, at the time, WCW wasn’t doing so well. He was signed as Senior Vice President and after entering, he started making some big moves. He signed top draw wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Scott Hall and Roddy Piper.

After convincing Turner to give the show a prime-time slot, the show was able to compete with the WWF. Despite all odds, WCW was able to beat WWF in ratings on the first week, and with Bischoff as the commentator, he officially declared war on Monday Night Raw.

On his 39th birthday in 1996, he revealed that Scott Hall would be working with WCW and be part of now, the popular WCW heel faction. The move secured the number one spot as the top wrestling promotion in America and it maintained this position for 95 consecutive weeks.

WWF gained the upper hand in 1999 and after some difficult conditions, he walked away in 2000. He attempted to purchase WCW together with Fusient Media Ventures but lost the deal and the company was sold to Vince McMahon. In 2003, Bischoff was hired by his old rival, Vince McMahon and served as the general manager of Monday Night Raw.

This was after he took some time off to work on other television projects. In 2020, he made a few appearances on AEW Dynamite to moderate a debate between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy. However, it was confirmed that he is not signed to the company.
