He was born Eric Doyle Mesinger to a German Jewish father Jonny Mesinger, who was also a bandleader. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on 12 May 1958 and he grew up there. Due to his father’s profession, he also started playing drums at a very early age and some of the drummers who inspired him included Bill Ward, John Bonham, and others. Before becoming a professional drummer he was employed at King Musical Instruments.

He joined Kiss as a drummer in 1991, and he made a debut in their album Revenge. He toured with the band for five years after which he started touring with Brian May who was a guitarist FOR Queen. He rejoined Kiss in 2001 where he debuted as “The Catman”. He stayed for only one year and then left after the original Catman, Criss rejoined the band.

In 2004, Singer made a comeback into the band after Criss’s contract was not renewed and since then he has been the official drummer of the band. The band’s first studio album after the new line-up was titled Sonic Boom, where Singer and Tommy Thayer who was the lead guitarist played and sang. They released another album Monster in 2012.

Apart from being the official drummer of Kiss, Singer has had several other musical projects which have greatly promoted his career. He performed with Alice Cooper and he has been featured in the albums Along Came a Spider, Brutal Planet, and The Eyes of Alice Cooper. He left the band in 2008 to focus on his project Eric Singer Project (ESP).
