- When he was 3 or 4 years old, Eric moved with his parents to American Samoa, as his dad got a job of a high school principal there.
- He described the experience of living on American Samoa as idyllic, as he had the whole island to play around on.
- At the age of 8, he moved back to Santa Barbara, California. Eric said that he didn’t know how to tie his shoelaces in the 2nd grade, simply because he never wore shoes on the island.
